Weingut Wetzel

Three brothers, three vineyards, three grape varieties: Malbec from Gebenstorf, Cabernet Dorsa from Würenlos and Diolinoir from the Goldwand in Ennetbaden come together in a standout wine of Aargau viticulture. It carries the knowledge and experience of Jürg, Martin and Michael Wetzel. Drei Hoch Drei – the essence of Aargau.

Pinot Noir, Malbec and Cabernet Dorsa grapes are hand-harvested, spread out on fruit crates and left to dry in the open air. Slowly, the aromas concentrate within the berries. After about six weeks the mash is fermented and gently pressed. The cuvée is partly aged in barriques. A remarkably dense, full-bodied wine with a delicate fruity sweetness - the crowning touch to a festive meal.

A striking erratic boulder, the red field stone known as verrucano, has always shaped the look of our vineyard. From the grapes that ripen around this rock we make this cuvée. Zweigelt gives the wine its bold cherry aromas and full body, Cabernet Dorsa its peppery note and soft finish, and Pinot Noir its harmony and elegance. Enjoy the Verrucano with a festive meal.

From the Zweigelt grape, a cross between Sankt Laurent and Blaufränkisch, we craft a deep red wine with lovely blackberry and cherry aromas. A long maceration with intense aroma extraction brings out its firm tannins. Aged in wood, this wine is a rewarding companion to grilled meats, game or roasts.

Pinot Noir, also known as Blauburgunder, is the traditional red wine of our region. The grapes thrive in the deep, chalky moraine soils of the Limmat Valley, producing wines with a firm structure and fruity aromas. Ageing in stainless steel tanks carefully brings out the character of the variety and the site. We recommend this wine with regional cuisine.

Les Deux is an exclusive red wine cuvée. The powerful structure of Syrah together with the roundness and warmth of Cabernet Dorsa shape this exceptional wine, aged in barrels of Swiss oak.

Only the finest grapes from our Pinot Noir vines go into this exceptional wine. Fermentation on the skins followed by twelve months of ageing in barrels of Swiss oak give it a powerful body with finely balanced vanilla and toasted notes. After the cask, the wine usually rests in the bottle for two to three years. Our Reserve is a distinguished companion to meat, game and cheese.

Pinot Noir, also known as Blauburgunder, is the traditional red wine of our region. This elegant red comes from our vineyard in Oetwil an der Limmat. It shows pronounced berry aromas and smooth, harmonious tannins. Ageing in steel tanks lets the fruit aromas shine at their best. It pairs beautifully with warm dishes such as meat and grilled fare.

Cabernet Dorsa comes from a cross between Dornfelder and Cabernet Sauvignon. Full-bodied and lightly peppery, with notes of cherry and blackberry, it charms with a soft, harmonious finish. Aged in used barrels of Swiss oak, it pairs beautifully with hearty dishes, pasta and game.

We craft this Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) from perfectly ripe grapes grown at deliberately low yields. A powerful, full-bodied wine that matures for a year in wooden barrels. Its broad bouquet with hints of dried plums and wild berries, along with a layered body and harmonious tannins, is the reward for such care and patience. Our Auslese is a delight with meat and game dishes or cheese.

This distinctive wine is made from the noble Sauvignon blanc grape. On the nose and palate, this popular wine clearly recalls fresh citrus fruit, elderflower and gooseberry. Thanks to its many layers, we recommend it for almost any occasion: as an aperitif, with fish and cheese dishes, asparagus or salmon canapés.

Riesling-Silvaner, made from the Müller-Thurgau grape, is the classic white wine of our region. This early-ripening variety thrives on our moraine soils. Lively and easy-drinking, the wine has a fruity bouquet with a light hint of muscat. On the palate it charms with its balance and a fresh, restrained acidity. We recommend it as an aperitif, with cheese platters or asparagus dishes.

Federweiss, or Blanc de Noir, is a white wine pressed from blue grapes. Thanks to gentle whole-cluster pressing, our Blanc de Noir takes on only a subtle salmon hue. Finely fruity, it recalls apricot and peach on the nose and shows an elegant body with a smooth texture and balanced acidity. Served chilled, it suits an aperitif, fish or Asian cuisine.

The Pinot Noir grape, also known as Blauburgunder, thrives in the calcareous moraine soils of the Limmat Valley. For the rosé, the mash is briefly warmed to 30 degrees and then gently pressed. The result is a pale red wine with a floral bouquet and elegant, fruity aromas. The rosé is an excellent match for apéritifs, grilled dishes and light summer cooking.
