Rosa pendulina (L.) - Alpen-Hagrose (Alpine rose) - Rosier des Alpes - Rosa alpina - Drooping Rose
Rosa pendulina (Alpine rose) has a loose, open habit, which also makes it a fine choice for low hedges. It reaches a height of 100 to 150 cm. The shrub may produce a few suckers, but these do not spread invasively. This wild rose works beautifully as a specimen plant and is a favourite for home gardens. With its thornless shoots and the strong colour of its flowers, it draws every eye. It grows equally well in a wide range of positions. The pleasantly scented blooms are purple-pink. Depending on altitude, flowering runs from June to July. The hips are red, bottle-shaped and pendulous. They are edible and high in vitamin C.
Position: dry to fresh soils, sun to shade
Seed provenance: canton of Schwyz (CH)
